Sheng Chi Kung Fu has been teaching Kung Fu in Calaveras County since 1995 and in Toulumne County since 2005. We opened in Burson California in September of 1995 and moved to Valley Springs in May of 2003. We opened in Sonora in September of 2005
We are a full time school and have been, since opening. We teach classes for children ages 5 and up , adult Kung Fu classes , T'ai Chi /Chi Kung classes, Cardio Kickboxing , Yoga , and more.
In 2002 we changed our name to Sheng Chi Kung Fu .
We took on this name because we felt it described who we are.
The art of Shou' Shu' , although it had originally been used to protect
the Mandarin Royalty of China, had fallen into less
than honorable hands. Because the practice of
Kung Fu was not allowed in China during the
beginning of the Communist regime, the
only people who preserved it were certain
Triads.
The art was practiced underground by
these Triad members. As the Chinese Triads
became involved in organized crime in the US in the
1930's, the art was used by these triads and only
taught to their members.
However unfortunate it was that the art was
used for crime, it is very fortunate that it was
preserved. It was nearly lost.
The art was passed to our teacher,
Da' Shifu
Al Moore Sr . He was involved with these Triads
early in life. He led a very interesting and
dangerous life.
In his later years he mellowed into a wise man and realized that Shou' Shu', taught properly, had great benefits. He became very humble with age and taught us to be the same. In his later years he began to teach very sophisticated parts of the art previously hidden. He taught this to us and taught us how he wanted it passed down.
We named our school Sheng Chi to represent the fact that the art is now taught in a very positive manner. It is a very powerful art, and extremely unique. A treasure among martial arts. Very worthy of our endeavors to preserve it's knowledge.
